In this section, we will take a look at the steps operators typically perform during package processing. For detailed processing examples, see the Walkthrough samples.
After opening the Process screen, the first thing an operator needs to do is set the Location field to identify their current location. The current location is used for all packages processed at one time. Once the first package is processed, the Location will lock until the packages have been submitted. Location is the only field that affects all packages during processing.
Next, take the first package you need to process. You will provide information for each package as you handle it. Every package can have completely different information for fields other than location, signature, and notes.
Set the Status field to identify the current processing stage for the package. You can do this by selecting the status from the drop-down or scanning a status barcode if you are using SmartScan.
Next, (optionally) look at the package's label and set the Destination field to the appropriate recipient. Once a destination is assigned to a package, TekTrack will recall that destination during future package processing.
Next, (optionally) specify a pouch for the package. The pouch must be a package that is already in the Package Queue. See Pouching for more detailed information.
The last piece of information you need to provide is the package ID. Scan the package's barcode or enter the package ID manually. The package information you filled in the Log Form will now be used to create an entry in the Package Queue. The Log Form will clear the fields that have been configured to automatically clear and is now ready for the next package.
With the completion of the first package, the location field will show as locked (a padlock icon will appear next to the location field) until you submit or remove the package(s) in the Package Queue. User-specific preferences can cause the location and/or status fields to be automatically hidden until the packages have been submitted. With the location and status set, you have the option of rapidly scanning one package after another and updating several packages at once in the Package Queue.
The Package Queue temporarily holds processed package information until the information is committed to the system. While in the Package Queue, you can view, modify (i.e. change status, recipient, pouch, or carrier), or remove packages before submitting the Package Queue to the system.
You can capture a recipient signature or add a note at any time during the processing. When you have completed processing packages and are satisfied that the information in the Package Queue is correct, click the Save button to commit the package information.
